Algiers Friendship Day

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Ya might want to check out last year's webpage, it gives the history of Algiers and the Westbank.

We started the day the RIGHT way with Breakfast Burritos!! Well, while Laurent is cooking those, I started the Corned Beef and Cabbage. That's about 110 lbs of trimmed corned beef and 4 gallons of beer, a cup of Caraway Seeds and beef base.  I boil that down for about an hour to make the meat and seeds tender.

We then add about 20 lbs of diced onions, garlic and crab boil.   Sweat that down until the onions are clear.

Then add the chopped cabbage.  Cook that for about 45 minutes or until the cabbage is tender.  If you want the full recipe just click here!

After ALL of the work was done, Chef Ricky showed up to help serve and get the accolades! Go Figure!

For entertainment there were bagpipes, "Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders" and "Chicken on the Bone".

The various organizations that throw this party also supply FREE hot dogs and green beer.  Now, ya know why this is such a great party!

This is a panorama from the levee of the crowd!!! This party is getting bigger every year!!
